The powers that be, including Stan Lee, decided to cancel the “Amazing Fantasy” comic after only 15 issues, due to dwindling sales way back in August 1962. For its last issue, Stan Lee working with artist Steve Ditko produced their most famous creation, Spider-man. Publisher Martin Goodman thought that no one would want to read about a high school science nerd who gained the powers of something as creepy as a spider. He only allowed Lee to run the story in Amazing Fantasy number 15 because the title was being canceled. That was indeed the final issue of Amazing Fantasy, but the Spider-man appeared in his own title the following year.
Sales figures were strong after Amazing Fantasy #15 arrived on the stands. Readers wrote letter after letter demanding to see more of this new, different hero named Spider-Man and come March of 1963, he was back in Amazing Spiderman #1!
Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created a character people could relate to. Peter Parker had to deal with real life like everyone else. He and his realistic teenage problems like peer pressure, girls, and the rest. Writer Stan Lee and artist and Steve Ditko, produced 38 issues from 1963 to 1966.
Hope your collection is going strong and we can help fill those gaps!
